I devoted some hours this week-end to migrate my mp3 collection from 
quickbase.com to Xindice (pronounced equis-�ndice in spanish).
Fortunately the Java XML-RPC plugin of XIndice and the Xindice demo app 
was not very well documented and I decide to research the ruby way.

So far I have Xindice up and running and got some ruby code talking with it:

s = XMLRPC::Client.new( myHost, "", myPort )
s.call2("db.insertDocument","/db/mp3s","88",'<?xml 
version="1.0"?><cd><id>88</id></cd>')

and also stuff like that:

  s.call2("db.queryDocument", "/db/mp3s", 
"XUpdate",%Q[<xupdate:modifications version="1.0" 
xmlns:xupdate="http://www.xmldb.org/xupdate"><xupdate:append 
select="/cd" ><xupdate:element 
name="status">wrong</xupdate:element></xupdate:append></xupdate:modifications>],{}, 
"88" )

Prety nice and easy so far.

Now I am fighting with REXML to handle the quickbase exported file and 
make the real migration, but that's another story...
