I am just a dumb Windows NT sysadmin. I am not sure what you are trying to do, but if the subject line is correct: 'Ruby on Port 23 without admin access' There is a quick answer: not possible. In general, any port below roughly 1000 needs admin access to bind to it. You can however pick a lower port number and bind to that without admin access. > >-----Original Message----- > >From: Pat Eyler [mailto:pate@eylerfamily.org] > >Sent: 18 April 2002 16:15 > >To: ruby-talk@ruby-lang.org > >Subject: RE: Pascal to Ruby > > > > > > > >You can run as a daemon at any port (witness mysql at 3306, and X at > >6000). One way you could run your program through inetd (or xinetd) which > >will bind to the port for you and allow your script to answer at port 23. > > > >-pate The suggestion of using 'inetd' requires admin access to set-up. Hope that clarifies a bit! Cameron
