Subject: New to Ruby's C API

I followed the examples in the online rubycentral.com/book 
documentation, but I seem to have linker problems when I try to compile 
it(Mac OS X/gcc 2.95.2).  _main, _rb_cObject, and _rb_define_class 
aren't defined.

This makes me think the ruby.h header file isn't being included for some 
reason.

Is there anything I'm missing that should be painfully obvious?
