Subject: slow ftp

What takes 2 seconds to ftp from a windows command prompt takes 14 seconds with ruby.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to speed this up.

 require 'net/ftp'

 ftp = Net::ftp.new('isaac')
 ftp.login(user="the_user",passwd="the_pass")
 ftp.chdir('/gisnt/shape')
 the_fname = 'address.shx'
 new_name = 'c:\temp\aaaa.aa'
 ftp.getbinaryfile(the_fname,new_name,1024)
 ftp.close
