AFIK, the best documentation is the source.  And a discussion
in ruby-dev.

Thank you.  I could reproduce with just

  s = StringIO.allocate; GC.start

With allocation framework, uninitialized objects can be made
easily, and I forgot dmark() might be called with NULL.
