Subject: String sentinels


Hi,

I was looking through the source for String and noticed that there is a
sentinel (0x00) maintained at the end of each string. I'm wondering if
anything in Ruby depends on this, or if it depends on the maintained length
('len') field?

The reason I'm asking is that I need to read from an input stream that has
multiple text files that are separated by embedded nulls. I'm reading that
stream using the 'gets' method.

My program works. I just want to make sure that it isn't working just by
chance.
