While I'm not a member of the Detroit Ruby group, I did do a little research and it looks like there's a fairly active meetup group:

You might want to attend an upcoming meetup to talk to some folks there and ask about the mailing list. There's also a Contact us link that you might want to try. Hopefully that helps get you hooked up with some Ruby folks in Detroit!
