Ruby 1.6.7 compiles out of the box for me on RH 6.0:

[user@host]$ wget ftp://ftp.ruby-lang.org/pub/ruby/ruby-1.6.7.tar.gz
[user@host]$ tar xvfz ruby-1.6.7.tar.gz
[user@host]$ cd ruby-1.6.7
[user@host]$ ./configure
[user@host]$ make
[user@host]$ su
[root@host]# make install
[root@host]# exit
