Can you provide more details of your process?

* Install Fedora x on y (e.g. 13 on x86_64)
* Install Ruby 1.8.7-? via yum or source
  * if source, what configure flags/prefix/etc
* Download and extract 1.9.2-?
  * ./configure
    * any flags here?  are you overwriting 1.8.7 in-place or
installing into a prefix
  * ...
* ...
