From: ptkwt@...1.aracnet.com (Phil Tomson) Date: 2002-04-10T10:30:29+09:00 Subject: C++ extensions, garbage collection, Ruby and SWIG I wanted to use SWIG to make a Ruby extension out of an existing C++ library (http://www.itu.dk/research/buddy/index.html). When it comes to extensions and GC I've seen exhortations like the following on the list: "Be sure to understand ruby's memory management before attempting to design your classes. Since you want to write a "C++ extension to Ruby", you should defer all memory management to the ruby interpreter." - Tobias Peters That actually sounds like good advice, however the library I want to 'swig' already has 'automated garbage collection' as a feature. Will this cause trouble? Are there ways to work around the problems that might be caused by this? Phil
