Do you need to call 'render' at all, because you are using already an 
"expression result substitution" (<%=). So actually, you only nead to write:

<%= request.fullpath == '/home/menu' ? 'current' : '' %>

or

<% if request.fullpath == '/home/menu' then %>
current
<% end %>
