Just to let you know, I've been playing around with FastCGI a lot lately... from
what I can see Eli's pure FastCGI version does not currently handle threads
correctly.  In other words, it will block per request.  This won't be such a
problem for most people, but if you want to process multiple requests at the
same time, the ruby FastCGI is not currently thread safe/capable.  I added
threads to the pure version, but I haven't really tested it thoroughly and it
_seems_ to work, but I'm concerned a bit about performance.  The FCGI version is
not thread safe according to an old post by matz [ruby-talk: 11922].  I did ask
about multithreaded fastcgi versions (akin to python ones available
now--sz_fcgi, for example), but from the lack of responses I guess there really
aren't any out?
