I'll offer some justification for JRuby being a really excellent target for Rubygame. * Java has a bunch of really excellent 3D graphics libraries now, with full scenegraphs, physics engines, and more. * Most of those engines ship binaries pre-built for OS X, Windows, and Linux. You can bundle up a JRuby game with the library in a single binary, and it will run out of the box. * JRuby has good performance characteristics. Tom Enebo has ported some Java-based demo games from the JMonkeyEngine project to Ruby...and they run just as well. * There are already other successful games running on Java, like MineCraft. I know Tom is interested in continuing to pursue JMonkeyEngine-based game libraries, and maybe there's a match with Rubygame. He's been working on a Gosu-lookalike API atop his "JRME" JMonkeyEngine wrapper. Of course I'd personally love to see more game development atop JRuby, because it would push us to make performance faster and faster. And since I like new games...I assume I'd be automatically in the alpha and beta programs for stuff folks build :) - Charlie
