I use the following.
From Nutshell (goat) book, under 'Comments', page 8

=begin
This is an embedded document.
=end

note that the contents between =begin/=end can continue for multiple lines. 
 If you are actually going to use the embedded document feature, this might 
not work for you.  I am not at a stage where I use that feature, hence 
=begin/=end works great for me to block out multiple lines of code.
