My only reason for having them is if folks that are new to Ruby don't
know RegExp syntax they may look to String for begin and end matching
methods.  Back to the Basic days, they had Left$, Right$ and Mid$.  Not
advocating the names, just the fact that folks have been using these
types of methods for a long time.
