Subject: class in module v. not

What's the difference between:

  module MyModule
    class MyClass
    end
  end

and:

  class MyClass
  end

  module MyModule
  end

I assume with the former, I have to address it like:

  MyModule::MyClass

... but what does that form buy me over the other? Is it simply
communicating intent?
