Where is a good online > resource (in addition to the mailing list you mentioned). AptGet, spelled apt-get on the command line, is the package management from Debian GNU/Linux. Most people seem to consider it the best of the linux package management systems. The Mac port is called Fink for obscure reasons having to do with Charles Darwin and finches. It's a pretty good system; a little more binary oriented than Ports. I like the way it keeps everything in it's own tree.
