I should have put two-and-two together and realized that since -1 means the last character in the string, and using '..' in the range means to include the last character in the string, that [11..-1] means start at 11 and include everything up to and including the last character in the string, but I've never used indexing with this sort of flexibility so it hasn't all entirely jelled for me yet.
