-ruby.h is located in archdir 
for me : /home3/breiz/deweerdt/Utils/ruby/lib/ruby/1.6/sparc-solaris2.5.1
shouldn't it be in includedir : 
/home3/breiz/deweerdt/Utils/ruby/include ?


-I can't get your solution work, I mean :

gcc -I`<the ruby script>` ... fails because it can't find ruby.h

I thougt I could be the extra quotes so I tried
gcc -I"<the include path>" .... that works.

Do you succesfully use ruby -rrbconfig -e 'p Config::CONFIG["archdir"]' in your makefiles ?
