Subject: Weird problem with Ruby debugger

Hi all,

     I don't know if this is an already known bug, or a "feature", or
what, but yesterday, I was trying to debug a script I had written using
the ruby debugger (ruby -r debug myscript.rb).  I put in a breakpoing,
ran it, and when I got to the breakpoint, I did a list (list 10-20)
or something like that.  The debugger reported that it could not find
the sourcefile "myscript.rb", even though it was clearly able to 
step through it, and put in breakpoints, etc.

     To be brief, I messed around with it for awhile, and finally
discovered that the debugger was able to do a "list" command just
find up until the point that my script executed this line, and
immediately afterwards it started issuing the 'source file not found"
error:

   $= = true

I set this variable to true in my initialization code, because I
wanted all the string comparisons in my script to me case insensitive
comparisons.  I have no idea why this affected the debugger in the
way it did.  If anyone else has any insight into or explanation of
what this problem is, or how to resolve it, I'd apreciate it.  Thanks
