I was missing same thing so I override
run in my TestCase i.e

class TC_foo < Test::Unit::TestCase
def run(result)
      puts self.name
      super
 end 
def test_flunk
  flunk("test test and test")
end
end
---
ruby foo.rb
Loaded suite foo
Started...
...test_flunk(TC_foo)

Failure occurred in test_flunk(TC_foo) [foo.rb:8]: test test and test
