You can also explicitly pass the container object into the contained:

class Contained
  attr_reader :container
  def initialize container
    @container = container
  end
end

class Test
  attr_reader :con
  def initialize
    @con = Contained.new self
  end
end

contained = Test.new.con
p contained.container
