My .emacs's section relevant to ruby:

(defun ruby-custom-setup ()
  (setq tab-width 2)
  (define-key ruby-mode-map "\C-cs" 'ruby-eval-buffer)
)

(add-hook 'ruby-mode-hook 'ruby-custom-setup)


My .02E on the subject: holy wars can be fought a hundred times and
there will still be people who want tabs and people who want spaces.

I set my Emacs to use tabs because, if I send a source to someone who
likes code indented at the fifth or ninth column, that's what he'll
get; if he sends me a source he reads indented at the fifth or ninth
column, I'll still read it indented at the third as I like.  How's
that for balance. :-)
