You'll probably find it cheaper, and there are still plenty of libraries out there which are not compatible with 1.9 anyway. The first edition is available on-line for free, at http://www.ruby-doc.org/docs/ProgrammingRuby/ This was written for ruby 1.6.8, but is still quite workable as a starting point, and you'll at least discover whether you find the style helpful or not before deciding to buy the 2nd or 3rd edition. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.
