WASTE is a Mac OS text editing library, originally open source. It's not the
most full-featured text editing library, but it's much better than what the
classic Mac OS shipped with, and it's easy to extend.

A prerequisite question is: has anyone completed a Carbon binding for Ruby?
Cocoa has a powerful integrated text engine, so WASTE is unnecessary with
RubyCocoa.
