Thank you James, that is exactly the kind of feedback I need.  A
purpose of the tool is to be multiplatform and yet I can only test it
directly on Linux.  Translation: I'll be surprised if it runs on
Windows out of the box. ;-)  Please do report any other problems.

It is only for running the tests.  I will convert them to Test::Unit,
which I hear is going to be in the standard distribution.

For an end user, the uri package and gzip (sorry, zlib wouldn't work
correctly).

All the rest is in the <libdir>/rpkg/ directory, also what wouldn't
normally fit, like a StringIO and two archive classes.

For a packager, the tools `tar' and `ar' are also required in the
search path.

I might be wrong but there was discussion about something like that
several weeks ago.  That would be great for module packagers, too.
