I'd imagine that multi-platform is easier with jruby (rawr) or 
appcelerator or possibly tk or qt.

If you want to use tk on your windows distro [and are using mingw 1.9.x] 
you can install it as a gem from

http://github.com/rdp/tk_as_gem
