Subject: Task/method dependency library?

Has anyone developed a dependency management library akin to Rake's,
but for use as a library --does not lie at the top-level and tie into
the command-line?

I tried my hand at it some time ago, but was never happy with the
results. Was wondering if any one else had done so.
