Seriously though, it depends on your application. Threads are in much better shape in Ruby 1.9 than in 1.8. I would say that 1.8 uses green threads, while 1.9 you have real threads and fibers. Also, keep in mind which interpreter you are using. My aforementioned statements are only true for the ruby interpreter on ruby-lang.org JRuby is a totally different story.
