Mine reports: libxml: loaded: 2.7.5 binding: extension compiled: 2.7.5 with no warnings. Can you install a newer version of libxml2? As you can see from http://xmlsoft.org/news.html, your version dates back to 2004 with tons of bug fixes (including XPath fixes) since.
