Amen, let the code speak for itself.  And let's all in the west be
thankful for the early prevalence of ASCII in computers, or else we
might have seen far more languages written in native character sets, and
never met Ruby :(

On that note, a quick question for you matz: what were your reasons for
choosing ASCII?
