Please forgive my silly question, but does this mean that the "installer" doesn't require cygwin, or that ruby doesn't use cygwin? If the latter, what is the major advantage(s) of creating a "native win32" stream? Is there some pressing reason not to use the cygwin dll? One of the things I found frustrating when using Perl was that the Unix stream (including that shipped with cygwin) shipped with different modules than ActiveState's native port. This meant that I needed to do a fair amount of checking for "flavour". One of the nice things I have found about ruby is that, so far, this problem doesn't exist. Is ruby is to go the same way as perl, in this respect?
