I want to do this: puts "#{"'"}" It doesn't work, I think because ruby sees it as: puts '#{' '"}" and there is no closing '. I can work around ruby by doing: apostrophe = "'" puts "#{apostrophe}" and perhaps it is cleaner. But is what I want to do a reasonable thing to be able to do? Should Ruby allow me to do it? Paul
