Boy, do I feel stupid...

Yes, 'orb.string_to_object(ior[0])' and 'orb.string_to_object(ior.to_s)' 
both solve the problem of the unsupported object reference. Unfortunately, 
I now get another error as Rinn fails to find the method of the simple idl:

  ./client.rb:16: undefined method `name' for #<Rinn::ORBit::Stub:0x40393be8> (NameError)

However, given the above lesson, maybe I will find someother error if I
carefully scrutinize the code further. ;-)
