Make sure you have this ENV variables pointing to the correct dirs:

GEM_HOME=/usr/local/rubygems/gems
GEM_PATH=/usr/local/rubygems/gems
RUBYLIB=/usr/local/rubygems/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8
