Subject: minor problem with 1.9 compile

I'm following instructions "Install Alongside Ruby 1.8.x- -Upgrading to 
Ruby 1.9.1" at
http://ruby.about.com/od/newinruby191/ss/install191.htm

I'm sitting in the dir where I've unpacked the source, and I'm now 
trying to run the configuration script. But...it appears to be an 
unknown entity - to wit:

$ sudo ./configure --program-suffix=19
sudo: ./configure: command not found

I don't know what to do at this point. Suggestions?
