ANNOUNCEMENTS ============= Jelly (pre-alpha) Tobias Reif has released a pre-alpha release of Jelly([1]) which is a Ruby program that generates libraries from XML schemas. Simple Interface Engine 1.11 Peter Hickerman has developed an expert system shell with a TK front end. Currently SIE([2]) runs on Windows and Linux, REXML is required. Task Master 0.1.1 Phil Tomson's latest release of Task Master([3]) is out. TaskMaster (formerly known as Distributor) is a task distribution system written in Ruby (uses dRuby). Use it to distribute your own runnable objects (objects which respond to a 'run' message). Since you can define your own runnable classes, there's no limit to what types of tasks you can distribute. This is mainly a bug fix release. OpenSSL for Ruby 0.1.1 Michal Rokos has released OpenSSL for Ruby([4]). RubyCocoa 0.2.6 FUJIMOTO Hisakuni has released another version of RubyCocoa([5]). RubyCocoa is a combination Mac OS X framework and Ruby library for using Cocoa Objects on MacOS X in Ruby scripts. Many bug fixes and improvements. Ruth 0.8.0 We have heard from a sparrow (George Marrows :)) that Robert Feldt has released a new version of Ruth. Ruth([6]) is a Ruby extension giving classes and functions access to Ruby internals. ByteCodeRuby 0.1.0 George Marrows announced a new version of ByteCodeRuby([7]). The ByteCodeRuby([8]) project is the very, very beginnings of a byte code interpreter for Ruby, functionality is limited but clearly efforts have begun! INTERESTING THREADS =================== Setting the Ruby Aidan Mark shared his initial experiences with Perl and suggested some possible reasons as to why Perl started to really take off. He asks the community if they think there is a niche that they think could/will launch Ruby into the mainstream. What do you think? Can you contribute? RubyConf.new('2002').info Phil Tomson asked if there was any early information about this years 2nd annual Ruby conference. Through unconfirmed sources it has been said that this years RubyConf 2002 will be in Seattle just before OOPSLA with a very, very tentative date of November 1st 2002. Hope to see many of the Ruby community there!
