Is there a way to make the statusbar > container itself empty, sort of like a layout manager? I hope I'm not over-simplifying what you're asking for, but if you just want a static message line along the bottom of the window, why not just use a regular FXLabel? (By "static", I don't mean that you can never change the text displayed on that label, I just mean that it's an explicit action on your part, by calling FXLabel#setText). Instead of creating an FXStatusbar, try replacing that line of your program with something like: @statusLabel = FXLabel.new(self, "Jos Backus", nil, JUSTIFY_LEFT|FRAME_SUNKEN|LAYOUT_SIDE_BOTTOM|LAYOUT_FILL_X) and then when the program's running, you could change the status message thusly: @statusLabel.setText("Hey Hey Hey!") If you were looking for something different, please clue me in further; Hope this helps, Lyle
