From: ptkwt@...1.aracnet.com (Phil Tomson) Date: 2002-02-06T09:41:06+09:00 Subject: revision control, arch and subversion There's a story on /. today about arch which is a revision control system that is trying to fix the problems that CVS has and competes against the subversion revision control system. It sounds conceptually pretty good, but when I got to the end of the comparison between arch and subversion it is mentioned that arch has less dependencies than subversion (which needs an http server and a database) because it is written in 40K lines of shell scripts, sed and awk! (http://www.regexps.com/#arch) Imagine the nightmare that would be to maintain. What about a similar sort of system (except that it would probably be a lot smaller and easier to maintain) written in Ruby? If it worked well as a replacement for CVS it could get certainly get Ruby installed on a lot more machines ;-) Phil
