[ANN] Climate Information Tool Kit

From: "Saji N. Hameed" <saji@...21.net>
Date: 2009-03-16 09:09:12 UTC
List: ruby-talk #331258
Hi all folks interested in climate information,

I am pleased to let you know of the release of the first version of the
online web service, known as the Climate Information Tool Kit
or CLIK (http://clik.apcc21.net).

CLIK wraps NCL (http://ncl.ucar.edu), its computation and graphics
engine, in Ruby with a front-end provided by Ruby on Rails.

The product is open source, so you are free to poke
around the code and adapt it for your own needs
(subject to CLIK copyright policies {to be
decided soon;)} , links to source code below this message)

CLIK allows registered users to make a "real-time"
customized Multi Model Ensemble forecast, check its
skill and visualize these
metrics in an easy to use web interface, powered by Google Maps
API. This skill score is a simple success rate metric
for the time being. CLIK is available online at http://clik.apcc21.net.

A simple registration procedure is needed before you can
access the services offered. CLIK services are open
to National Hydro-Meteorological Services and non-commercial
research users.

We would deeply appreciate your comments and suggestions. Feedback
may be provided formally through the RedMine Project Management
pages available at http://210.98.49.69:8001/projects/show/clik or
by email to clik@apcc21.net.

We would also appreciate feedback on additional features that may
help you to make CLIK useful for your climate predictability
research or forecasting. BTW, version 2.0
of CLIK to be released next year will feature a downscaling module
that allows gridded forecasts to be "empirically" downscaled to stations
of interest.

cheers,

saji

p.s1: A new forecast for the coming season is made available on
the 25th of each month. Thus, the forecast for April-May-June
will be available on the 25th of this month.
