Subject: Unable to update gems

I am trying to update the rails using gems update, and I am getting the
following error:

Updating installed gems
GET 304 Not Modified: http://gems.rubyforge.org/latest_specs.4.8.gz
Updating actionmailer
GET 304 Not Modified: http://gems.rubyforge.org/specs.4.8.gz
Installing gem activesupport-2.2.2
ERROR:  While executing gem ... (RangeError)
    integer 2953686243 too big to convert to `int'
