Subject: Hiding net library passwords

What is the method for hiding/encrypting passwords for some of
the net library functions which use a password?

For example, what is the idiom for hiding 'aPassword' in the
following telnet session?

 require 'net/telnet'
 tn = Net::Telnet.new({})
 tn.login('aLogin','aPassword') {|s| puts s}

This is only for controlling some local network power switches
so I don't need anything extremely secure, just something better
than sticking a clear-text password in the script file and 
relying on the file permissions to protect it...
