Somewhat unrelated, but is there any precedent in software releasing to 
touch every file before building the release archive? Then they'd all 
presumably have the same date. I don't see how it would break anything, 
and it would allow one to look at any file in the dist to know when the 
entire thing was released.

Just an idle thought...
