However, if I leverage off his bindings and change the names, or add convenience methods, and thereby produce a "better", more intuitive, more Rubyesque, API, then we have a net gain. Evolution. We wouldn't have Ruby if Matz had been satisfied with Perl. If you go browse the various Perl and Python chat archives, you'll find a lot of people complaining about what a waste and duplication of effort Ruby is. Heck, every time Ruby is mentioned on /., it evokes a slew of vitriolic commentary about how much Ruby sucks just by its mere existance, and that we should be satisfied with perl/python/tcl/awk. -- --- SER
