I have read Holub with interest and respect in the past. *This article*, though marked a big departure from his usual style. It struck me as deliberately sensationalized, more 'Web Journalism' than substance. Cf, for example, "Getters and Setters are *Evil* (emphasis in original). I find this kind of writing very easy to dismiss. It's bombastic, it's unsupported by argument or examples, and it pretends that read accessors are as serious a violation of encapsulation as write accessors merely (AFAICT) to turn a phrase. Note also the anti-academic posing. Sort of dishonest for a Berkeley prof. -- There is, nevertheless, a certain respect and a general duty of humanity that ties us, not only to beasts that have life and sense, but even to trees and plants. -Michel de Montaigne, essayist (1533-1592)
