You can update RubyGems by installing the rubygems_update gem and running it by hand. $ sudo gem install rubygems_update $ sudo update_rubygems Be aware that you sidestep the package system by doing this, so it might lead to strange behaviour if a rubygems update is pushed on apt. But thats a thing a Linux-User should answer you ;).
