This reply to your post is actually intended for the thread and your post was just a convenient place to hang it. Everyone here keeps making reference to "native" widgets. They appear to use the word as if the widgets were hard wired. When in fact "native" means simply "supplied by the OS authors". When the OS author is someone like MS, then it's understandable that this conotation would attach, because MS discourages competition. But the word is meaningless when applied to Linux. X is a very low level API that can be used to implement a plethora of "native" widgets. Tk, Fox, Qt, GTK, etc. are ALL native widgets on Linux.
