Its win32 specific, but the central idea is really cool. The SWin library is at: http://www.osk.3web.ne.jp/~nyasu/vruby/vrproject-e.html What's cool is the layering. The SWin library (native-c) does basic window management stuff. The VRuby stuff is pure Ruby and gives you a Visual Basic-like API. Not too fond of the VB API idea, and have though about re-creating a more OO abstraction (with good MVC, etc) on SWin, but it shows that such a system works (pretty well).
