um... in hindsight, why didn't we use range notation?

3.y.z         "3...4"
3.0.z         "3.0...4"
3.5.z to <4.0 "3.5...4"
3.5.z to <3.6 "3.5...3.6"

or, because the dots are a tad ambiguous, dashes:

3.y.z         "3-4"
3.0.z         "3.0-4"
3.5.z to <4.0 "3.5-4"
3.5.z to <3.6 "3.5-3.6"
