Anyway, that was _my_ reasoning. > I'd be happy to recast the poll differently. I do see your reasoning. It's just that where I, and I presume others, want Ruby to go doesn't seem to Map very well into OSes. For someone who's primary interest is Ruby on the server side, the difference between any Unix development and development for any version of Windows *except* WinCE is probably a "don't care." She will probably consider WinCE development wasted because it is not likely to be server code. For someone who uses Ruby to write GUI apps, the big deal may be more Ruby/Tk or Ruby/QT code so he will be thinking Linux, Windows or MacX code is equivalent to me but I don't care about Solaris, WinCE or FreeBSD. There is Cocoa/GNUStep contingent out there too. Finally, I think there is an important area, call it object scripting, that has to do with COM, OSA, XMLRPC and SOAP where I think Ruby has a big role as a bridge. There is an interesting survey lurking in here somewhere but maybe you've already done it. -- Many individuals have, like uncut diamonds, shining qualities beneath a rough exterior. - Juvenal, poet (c. 60-140)
